Ashok Kumar Jugnauth (Born आशोक कुमार जग्नोथ on 4 January 1953[1]) is former Mauritian Member of Parliament and was the Minister of Health of Mauritius from 2000 to 2005 serving in the cabinet of Anerood Jugnauth from 2000 to 2003 and Paul Berenger from 2003 to 2005. He succeeded to pull off the Political career in Mauritius as he forms part of the Jugnauth Family. He is the younger brother of Sir Anerood Jugnauth. He was minister during his brother's term as Prime Minister.

Early Life & Career

Ashok was born in the Jugnauth Family, one of the most powerful families in Mauritius at La Caverne, Vacoas. He went higher studies and became a lawyer same as others. His brothers, sons and nephews all are well known as Barristers.

He stood up his career being trained and shaped by his elder brother and became member of the Militant Socialist Movement and began his career. He was appointed by Sir Anerood Jugnauth in 2000 after winning at general elections.

In 2005, due to lost in elections, he stayed as member of the opposition led by his nephew Pravind Jugnauth. He claimed to become the leader of the MSM party.

He being more senior, he claimed to be next leader and head to Prime Minister in 2010. Pravind Jugnauth did not leave his seat resulting him in forming his own party, the UN (Union National). He stood up against Pravind for a seat in Parliament in 2009 but lost.[2]
